In Gujarat, a family in Tapi district performed ‘statue’ wedding for a couple, and became the cause of many heads to turn. While some would assume that the family held the unique event for the sake of getting viral, the real reason is rather heartbreaking. The family, living in Gujarat’s Tapi, performed the wedding of the couple’s statue, a year after they died of suicide.

Most couples across India end up uniting after their parents approve of their partners. However, there are times when parents do not deem a person’s partner worthy for marriage. Often, this happens in the case of economical difference, or interfaith relationship. The family in Tapi also disapproved the union of Ganesh Padvi and Ranjana Padvi.

Earlier last year, Ganesh and Ranjana were left dejected and disappointed after their families opposed of their wish to get married. In the abject disappointment, the couple took their lives, causing both the families to be left with void and remorse.
